Royal Easter Show Heritage Posters
Show posters have often been the centrepiece of the Royal Easter Show advertising blitz and campaigns. The posters were plastered around railway stations, on ferries and trams, even on the sides of postal vans in the 1930s and 40s.
The posters are works of art, often commissioned, and designed by leading commercial artists and graphic designers. Many of them are now held safely in galleries and heritage collections such as the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW Heritage Centre. They tell a story using iconic Show images, the fun of the Show, the country coming to town, competitions, carnival rides and various animals. The stars of the posters were very often an animal of some kind. Horses, cattle, and sheep regularly taking centre stage.
